This required close to 30 minutes of air to really get rolling but once it did it offers up a notably ripe combination of earth, anise, sandalwood and various dark berry fruit scents. There is outstanding richness and volume to the relatively sleek but muscular big-bodied flavors that terminate in a firm but not austere finish. This very powerful effort is very clearly built-to-age and a wine that is definitely going to need at least half a dozen years first.
Bright, moderately saturated medium red. A touch of reduction to the pure but withdrawn aromas and flavors of wild strawberry, flowers and spices. Bigger, richer and sweeter than the Clos Saint-Denis, showing a captivating sappy ripeness and serious concentration. The wine's rocky minerality really clamps down on the finish, with the horizontal, integrated tannins spreading out to saturate the mouth and front teeth. Quite powerful but an infant today, with all the elements for long-term aging. (ST)
A hefty dose of sweet, spicy oak is underscored by a deep well of dark cherry and plum fruit. Mineral, licorice and tobacco accents add interest as this plays out on the long finish. A bit plodding now, yet concentrated and long. (BS-WS Insider)
