A more deeply pitched nose combines notes of very fresh dark currant with those of earth, humus and a hint of the sauvage. The supple, round and utterly delicious flavors are generously proportioned as well as relatively refined thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the dusty and balanced finale.
There are only two and a half casks of Gevrey “en Champs” this year, but Monsieur Cheurlin observed that they have been able to add some parcels in the lieu à dit of aux Echézeaux in 2016, so the Gevrey villages cuvée will increase to ten barrels next year. The 2015 Gevrey is very pretty and again, very red fruity in personality, offering up a fine blend of cherries, strawberries, lovely spice tones, a good base of soil, raw cocoa and a touch of mustard seed in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and nicely transparent, with a good core, tangy acids and very good backend lift on the gently tannic finish. A classy AC and a fine new addition to the portfolio at Domaine Georges Noëllat. 2018-2040.
Good dark red. Aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate and licorice convey an almost roasted ripeness. Dense and ripe but juicy too, showing surprising energy for such a high-toned, chocolatey wine. The long finish features suave tannins, savory earth tones and very good lift. (ST)
