Stolpman has always been a fundamental part of K&L Hollywood ever since we opened our store a little over 10 years ago. In the last few years, Stolpman's renewed commitment to quality and a reinvestment back into those individuals who have supported their success, have put them on a whole 'nother level. They started the ball rolling with the La Cuadrilla Red Blend which started out as a learning opportunity for the vineyard crew to take ownership and to learn first hand, without expert assistance, how to manage a vineyard block solely on their own trial and error, with all of the profits going back to the La Cuadrilla vineyard team. The next endeavor to showcase their staff was to partner with those who know their grapes and vineyards the best, vineyard manager Ruben Solorzano and his vineyard forewoman wife Maria on the Para Maria Red Blend. The Para Maria is a selection of their juiciest, most approachable blocks of Syrah, with just a hint of Petite Verdot. The Para Maria is chock full of the expected black, wild berries, black pepper, and purple violets, but there is a pleasant twist in the bright, crunchy fruit that displays itself on the palate. This is most likely due to the partial carbonic fermentation that they utilize with a small portion of the Syrah to keep this fun red blend lifted, playful and delivering way more than the under $20 price tag denotes. It's a no brainer why Stolpman and this cheap and cheerful red made it onto the Wine Enthusiast Top 100!

After spending my first three years working all over Napa and Sonoma County in the wine industry, one could say my palate is slightly burnt out on Napa and Sonoma wine; however, I still love seeking out new and exciting wines from the Central Coast and Santa Barbara, and the Para Maria from Stolpman is definitely a crowd-pleaser. Fruit forward, yet well balanced with acidity, for under 20 bucks, this wine is a very pleasant experience. Want to bring something nice to a dinner party without breaking the bank? Look no further. The Para Maria is an outstanding red blend, truly showing just how good Santa Barbara wine is.

Deep purple color and sleek, ripe, purple fruit greet the nose with a slight rustic prickle. Just the right amount of richness on the palate with a touch of tannic grip and lively acidity. This is a wonderful wine with loads of character for a great price; no wonder it made the Wine Enthusiast's "Top 100" list.
