    Depth and intensity of a high end Chianti Classico at a better price point. Deep black cherries, rich earth, and polished leather on the nose let you know instantly. This is a must try for Chianti lovers who want something to stock up on in order to both drink and age.

    A lively, embracing nose greets you and showcases the French oak while hints of espresso are layered under scents of fresh violets, raspberries, and red cherry. Full and ripe red fruit on the palate with driven acidity and chewy tannins. The finish lingers with a savory, umami character intertwined with crushed cherry skins. It is nuanced yet has bold flavors, easy to drink with structure.

    The nose is full of bramble, earth, spice and whispers of wild cherry, potent and penetrating the nose really gives you a game plan for the rest of the wine. On the palate the wine has classic 100% Sangiovese length, texture, and a great focus, 2013 was an excellent year for Chianti Classico and it shows in the density and weight. I am in general not a fan of Sangiovese in barrique and I consider myself very sensitive to an over use of the small barrel, especially the 24 months worth of aging like this wine got, however I’m really impressed, no obvious barrique flavor, exceptional balance. The flavors are very complex, the earth is very present but the fruit makes a larger impact and you can really sense the perfect ripeness of the 2013 vintage. This is a sensational wine, powerful, deep, rich and will have a long life. To drink now I’d decant for 3-4 hours or this wine will age for a couple of decades easily.

    One thing I greatly appreciate about Castello di Bossi (along with a number of other highly regarded estates)is that their Chianti Riserva is exactly what it should be. Meaning, rather than being more concentrated and obscured by new oak, the fruit from their older vines truly shines. Their 2013 Berardo highlights intoxicating aromas and flavors of blackberry and cherry fruit and ranks among the best of the vintage from Berardegna. And, while ripe tannins add a bit of backbone to the palate, they're hidden under some very impressive primary fruit. Open now and enjoy this one.
