Absolutely fantastic aromas of crushed berries and flowers. Full body, such purity of fruit and ripe tannins. It goes on for minutes. A concentrated yet layered red. Incredible. A selection of the best grapes from this small estate.
Smells like a red Burgundy, featuring cherry, currant, earth and floral aromas and flavors. Elegant and firm, with fine depth and a saline, mineral finish. Despite their youthful grip on the finish for now, the tannins are well-integrated. (BS)
Spicy and dark from the start, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Zebras offers a bigger, bolder style compared to the estate's base Brunello. There's more extraction and richness here as well as a deeper sense of dark fruit, leather, root beer and dried rosemary. All that intensity works together with seamless integration. In the mouth, the wine shows silky tannins and long persistency that is driven by licorice, cola and spice characteristics. This is a successful expression for the classic 2010 vintage that should hold well over the next decade or two.
Lovely Sangiovese aromas of pressed blue flower, mint, leather, berry and a balsamic note mingle in the glass. The juicy palate doles out ripe wild cherry, black plum, cinnamon, licorice and mocha alongside firm, velvety tannins. (KO)
The Ciacci family started out as beekeepers and honey producers 30 years ago, and only began producing wine in 2000. They own 8.6 vineyard acres split between a plot in Brunello’s southern zone and another in the northwest, and selected the best grapes for the Zebras bottling. Aged 30 months in cask, the wine shows vibrant black cherry flavors layered with notes of dried tea leaves and tobacco. Black spices and mint add lift, and a streak of minerality tightens the structure.
Villa I Cipressi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Zebras is dark and inviting to the core. Black cherry and plum notes show the more intense side of Sangiovese. Hints of spice, leather and licorice develop in the glass, adding further shades of nuance while sweet, silky tannins add to the wine's near term approachability. This is a surprisingly juicy, fruit-driven style for I Cipressi and the vintage overall, but it works. (AG)
