When Joseph Drouhin's son Maurice took over the firm in 1918, he built up the label's reputation for quality and managed to acquire a number of important vineyard holdings on which to build that reputation. Abutting Pommard, his acquisition of a large portion of Clos des Mouches was first and foremost in this time period. The white wine produced under this label is known for its complexity and age-worthiness. This 1987 bottling has not been professionally reviewed, but Allen Meadows has reviewed several excellent bottlings from the 1980s for Burghound in the last few years.
