Once again there is ample citrus influence on the nose of mineral reduction and white-fleshed fruit aromas. The almost painfully intense middle weight flavors brim with minerality while concluding in an overtly punch, youthfully austere linear finish that cuts like a knife. Like several of the wines, this won’t be for everyone. Drink: 2024+ *Outstanding*
The 2016 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Clos du Meix comes from vines on hard limestone soil, and while it may not constitute one of Olivier Lamy's best-known labels, I was very impressed by this showing. It has a well-defined, wet limestone and slate-scented bouquet that translates the terroir extremely well. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity, very saline in the mouth with the saliva flowing after the wine is departed. You can already envisage this partnering and enhancing a heaped plate of fruits de mer! (NM)
The 2016 Clos du Meix is lovely, with a bit more depth and potential longevity than the very good Saint Aubin AC this year. The nose wafts from the glass in a vibrant blend of lemon, pear, chalky minerality, a dollop of crème patissière, lemon zest and a hint of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, long and complex, with excellent focus and energy, a good core and fine balance and grip on the zesty finish. This will be approachable early, but deserves a couple of years in the cellar to allow that additional layer of premier cru complexity to fully emerge. 2020-2040.
(from hard limestone soil over mother rock): Strong calcaire pungency to the aromas of lime zest, ginger, quinine and menthol. In a very cool style but with lovely intensity and definition to the flavors of lime and minerals. Penetrating, tactile and very long, with a taut minerality that reminded me of Riesling. Tight, dry and powerfully citric on the finish. My style of wine.(ST)
An elegant nose of apple blossom and honey precedes a stony and attractively floral wine. It is medium-full, expansive and detailed on the palate. In 2016 this south-facing site doesn’t seem to have achieved quite as much concentration or mid-palate depth as the Clos des Gravières, however.Drinking Window 2020 - 2030. (WK)
