This appellation bottling may not come with the distinction of having been sourced from a single site, but, as is often the case with practiced Pinot producers, it is a lovely wine by any measure. It makes a fine aromatic showing with lots of deep and defined, black cherry fruit teamed with a creamy complement of sweet oak, and its ample, exceptionally long flavors are as vital as they are wonderfully layered and rich. It is an altogether involving wine now and will provide pleasure aplenty in the short term, but it is balanced to keep and should age effortlessly for no fewer than another five or six years.
Wafting from the glass with expressive aromas of wild berries, cherry, spice and potpourri, the 2015 Pinot Noir is supple, medium-bodied and succulent, with melting tannins and a generous, giving core of fruit. It's a delicious example of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir that's already drinking well. (WK)
Forest undergrowth, muddy earth, crushed tarragon, dried mint and dark but not sweet plums show on the nose of this appellation blend. The palate shows earthy clay flavors as well as ripe cranberry and rose petals. (MK)
