\This is another wine that Jeremy poured for us that was really impressive. Larner Vineyard, dominated by sandy soil, is on the southern end of Ballard Canyon, a warmer wine growing region in Santa Barbara County. Like the Site Syrah, this wine possesses real power with black cherry, blueberry, baking spice and floral notes. Fresh, with fine tannin, this wine will easily continue to age for another 6–8 years.

To anyone that knows me it should come as little surprise that this is one of my favorite wines of 2018 so far. I'm just a little bit in love with California Grenache and this stunner from Larner vineyard is one of the most explosive and seductive you'll find. The Site wines are a side project for up and coming superstar winemaker Jeremy Winetraub (whose day jobs is being the winemaker at Adelaida). I truly think the Site wines rival some of the most expensive cult wines of the region such as Sine Que Non and Saxum. In fact this exact parcel of biodynamically grown Grenache from Larner vineyard is the same historical source that produced many of SQN's highly decorated Grenache based wines over the past years. The wine is powerful and lavishly exotic. Deep, spicy red-black fruit, raspberry preserve, clove, star anise, crushed rock and floral tones fill the nose. The palate is full bodied, saturated and silky smooth with layer upon layer of ripe tannins and plush fruit. A very hedonistic experience from arguably the best planting of this varietal in the country, beautifully choreographed by Jeremy. This should not be missed especially at our winery direct pricing.

This is a wine that Grenache drinkers absolutely need to check out. Actually, this is a wine for anyone that loves dark, rich, fruit-forward wines. At times, with its thin skins, Grenache can turn out light and flimsy, but with enough extraction and great fruit sources, it can be deftly powerful while still maintaining balance. The Site Wines Grenache is definitely in the later category, with rich, black berry and black cherry fruits delivered on silky tannins. This is definitely closer kin to Priorat than the Southern Rhone and is easily the best California Grenache I've had in the last year.

Larner Vineyard is home to some of the finest Grenache in California, and in this 2013 Site Wines bottling, we are fortunate enough to experience it. Jeremy Winetraub, winemaker for Adelaida, started Site Wines as his passion project, and this wine is certain to inspire passion in any who imbibes. Nearly black in color, with hints of magenta, the wine is very extracted and full bodied, yet perfectly in balance. Bright acidity, effusive minerality, and firm, sandy tannins act as counterpoint to the opulent, full bodied palate. Complex aromas and flavors unfold and evolve in the glass, both intensely floral and ripe fruited, but with gamey, almost smoky undertones. This is a wine with exceptional quality and power, that could arguably stand up to wines ten times the price.
