(one-third new oak) Deep red. Fragrant smoke- and spice-accented raspberry and cherry scents, joined by a floral nuance that gains power as the wine opens up. Fleshy and seamless in texture, offering pliant red berry and cherry-vanilla flavors and a touch of spicecake. Smooth, gently sweet and expansive on the clinging finish, which is given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins. (JR)
This opens with a pleasing toasty aroma, following through on the palate. That deft touch of French oak (33% new) frames a solid core of strawberry preserves and Bing cherry fruit. It resonates on through a stylish, textural finish. Enjoy this immediately, and tuck away a few bottles to drink in five years. (PG)
There is a minor whiff of reduction that isn't enough to mask the mostly red berry fruit aromas though it does erase some of the nuance so I would suggest giving this a quick aeration. Otherwise there is both good freshness and verve to the delicious, round and pliant medium weight flavors that offer good depth and sneaky good persistence. Very good quality for the price here as well.
Firm in texture, with licorice notes weaving through the black cherry flavors, lingering on the deft and persistent finish. Drink now through 2020. (HS, Web Only-2016)
