Palate-staining black raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors sweeten up slowly in the midpalate and pick up a hint of five-spice powder. This top tier effort captures all the most distinctive characteristics of good Oregon Pinot Noir. Black cherry fruit, a liberal dash of cola, a touch of sassafras and a dusting of baking spice combine in a burst of flavor. Delicious already, it will drink well for another half decade or longer. A relatively high-toned nose features almost exclusively red cherry and cranberry with whiffs of spice and rose petal. There is excellent verve and delineation to the focused and intense medium weight flavors that fan out nicely on the ever-so-mildly austere and linear finale. This too should repay at least a few years of cellaring to flesh out the finish.
