If driving west from Bilbao along the northern coast of Spain, you eventually hit the Asturian village of Guijon, famous for its apples and cider. A less known fact is that if you head south a bit deeper into Asturias, there is a beautiful wine country, Cangas, where delicious and expressive, lower alcohol red and white wines are produced. In this case we have a blend of Mencia, Carrasqquín, Verdejo Negro (Trousseau) and Albarín Negro (Alfrocheiro). Vibrant, freshly fruited, slightly floral and downright delicous, this red from slate dominant soils is one to drink often.
