Robust in body yet squarely structured, the Franz Anton shows more ripeness and concentration than the producer's standard-label bottling. Fleshy black cherry and berry flavors are ripe, but are offset by crisp acidity and a shroud of smoke and toast that accents without overwhelming. It's bold and penetrating, with a long finish marked by fine, persistent tannins. Delicious already, but bold enough to improve through at least 2030. *Cellar Selection* (AI)
A lovely savoury nose of bay leaf and hayflowers precedes cherry and berry fruit. Pepper mingles with the soft red fruit on a moreish palate. This is appetising, elegant and taut with a mouthwatering finish. Drinking Window 2017 - 2027 (AK)
Robust and spicy, this is a dark, earthy pinot filled with black raspberry flavor. It’s firm and structured, the acidity carrying a refreshing rose-hip tang, and lasts with violet fragrance.
The 2014 Pinot Noir Franz Anton has a very clear and elegant bouquet of red fruits and some floral, spicy and flinty aromas. The wine is medium-bodied and very elegant, revealing a lovely purity, finesse and freshness on the palate. It has some green asparagus aromas and fine, yet firm tannins. Very good grip here. Based on German Spätburgunder clones. (SR)
