Stephan Reinhardt writes: "With the Bernkasteler Doctor being added in 2016 there are now seven "grands crus" to be found at Thomas Haag's Schloss Lieser. The 2016 GGs are pretty homogenous in terms of quality and style, just the Juffer and the Goldtröpfchen fall a bit apart. Although the whole range was still pretty reductive when I tasted the wines twice on two days in March 2018, there is no doubt about the exceptional quality of the series, especially the wines with residual sugar. Namely, the Auslesen are exceptional and belong to the most exciting sweet wines I have tasted along Mosel, Saar and Ruwer from the 2016 vintage. But the fruity Kabinett and Spätlese selections are also gorgeous in their precision, piquancy and highly attractive juiciness. Haag harvested between October 10th and November 7th under "perfect conditions." Haag's 2016s are a safe value: you can't do anything wrong as long as you are in love with the classic, light and fruity Mosel style. You just need to have a bit of patience with the wines from Schloss Lieser."
