Profound, perfumed, softly deep nose. Fine, juicy, sultry and clear palate. Nature’s child. Drinking Window 2021-2056. (JLL)
Marc Sorrel says, "I think it’s the best vintage I’ve made," of the whole-cluster-fermented 2015 Hermitage Le Greal, and who am I to argue with that? It’s a profoundly deep and intense wine, rich in mouth-drying tannins, yet packed with cassis fruit and notes of licorice, mocha and black olives. Give this full-bodied wine another 7 years in the cellar, and drink it over the next two decades. 97+ (JC) Sorrel is an often-overlooked source of fine Hermitage that’s often generous and approachable in its youth because the sourcing doesn’t include the more austere lieux-dits of L’Hermite or Les Bessards. The white cuvée, Les Rocoules, can be profound. In his small cellars located right on Tain l’Hermitage’s main street, proprietor Marc Sorrel also crafts small quantities of Crozes-Hermitage from holdings in Larnage. (JC) 97+
Still incredibly youthful, with blueberry and cranberry fruit. Sweet, layered and potent on the palate. Awesome texture and length – a wine of brooding and understated power. Really tremendous, though still hiding behind a mask of youth. 18+/20 points (RH)
