Tasting Notes

Allen Meadows reports in Burghound that, "Bertrand Ambroise describes the 2001 vintage as "very ample with good freshness, plenty of character and particularly good transparency of the underlying terroir." While he was careful to point out that he very much admires the style of 2001, when pressed he conceded that he believes 2000 "was a slightly better vintage then 2001 but it's close." Ambroise noted that both sugars and acidities were "correct" with excellent overall ripeness and he observed that 2001 may in fact age somewhat better than 2000. "The malos were extremely slow and most wines did not finish until July, which has helped to keep them fresh," he explained, essentially suggesting this was why the wines should age well. All of the wines with the exception of the Corton-Charlemagne were bottled just before the 2002 harvest in September."
