The 2013 Pinot Noir River Block possesses a stunning inner-core of brilliant black cherries, black raspberries, spring flowers and a touch of earth as well as a medium to full-bodied, layered mouthfeel. Similar to a great grand cru from the Côte de Nuits, this beauty possesses the lushness to be approachable in its youth, but will not hit its stride for another 2-4 years, and should last for 12-15. Drink through 2030. (RP)
Dark red cherries, plums, spices, mint and new leather meld together in the 2013 Pinot Noir River Block. The flavors are dark, bold and incisive, with purplish overtones and plenty of spiciness to match the typical Russian River exuberance. This is one of the more open, sumptuous wines in the range. Expressive in oak, earth and clove with cinnamon-cola, this savory, complex wine is also impressive in its ability to offer crisp and focused lines of citrus and fresh-picked raspberry. It teeter-totters the variety's ability to be both fruit-forward and elusively hard to reach. Streaks of thyme and rosemary figure into the mix. Drink now through 2023. *Ranked #4 on 2016 Cellar Selections*
