Tasting Notes

This rosé from Domaine de la Chapelle Saint Victor AOP Coteaux d'Aix en Provence is made from a Mediterranean blend of Grenache, and Cinsault, and enhanced with a touch of Syrah (Grenache 50%; Cinsault 30%; Syrah 20%). Winery note: "Light pink in color, with violet shades, this wine possesses a memorable and complex aroma. A lively wine that is smooth and possessing a certain sweetness. Very fruity, this rosé is particularly well suited as an aperitif or with salads and vegetable dishes."

The marketing concept of a "rosé season" has been all but vanquished by the reality that many of these crisply enticing, food-loving wines can be served and enjoyed throughout the year, "because because because" (to paraphrase Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz) "of the wonderful things it does." This lovely, bejeweled rosé may not make you wish you were back in Kansas, but, with a rapture of delicate spice, gentle sweetness and inviting red fruits it will effortlessly transport you over the rainbow to the serene, acacia-scented, seaside villages of Provence. Just click your heels twice....

Every year this is one of the first French rose wines I purchase. The 2017 is elegant as always and leans perhaps more than usual toward a white wine in the expression of its aromatics and flavor profile. Floral, very lightly peachy aromas give way to a crisp refreshing and light palate with hints of strawberry and nectarine. The finish is dry with a lingering sense of stone fruit, cherry, and strawberry.
