The producer owns just over three acres of scattered parcels of this 123-acre vineyard, one of the iconic sites in Burgundy. Rich tannins and a huge structure are backed by powerful black damson fruit flavors. The wine is still very young and will not be ready to drink before 2025. (RV)
Here too the wood treatment isn't subtle though it doesn't completely mask the mostly red berry fruit, earth and humus aromas. Once again there is both good volume and mid-palate density to the mouth coating big-bodied flavors that flash a mild touch of rusticity on the impressively long finale. Interestingly, this is a bit less youthfully austere than it usually is and overall, color me impressed. *Sweet Spot*
(Faiveley vinified the old vines separately but then assembled them with the rest): Bright ruby-red. Alluring floral nose combines blackberry, black raspberry, violet and licorice. A savory and rather refined young Clos Vougeot, offering subtle notes of dark berries, flowers and earth rather than this grand cru's more typical black cherry and herb qualities. Nothing rustic about this highly promising Clos Vougeot! (ST)
