A lovely, Treppchen-typical nose of honeysuckle, orange blossom and sassafras leads into a palate that is glossy in feel yet buoyant and exceedingly bright in its expression of lime and clementine. There is also a luscious influx of ripe Persian melon. Its sweetness adeptly harnessed, this finishes with tingling brightness, consummate refreshment, mouthwatering salinity and outstanding sheer persistence. The only objection one could lodge – as Christoffel would be the first to acknowledge – would be that this is more of a Spätlese than a Kabinett. (DS)
A racy style, with slate notes to the fresh-cut apple and crunchy pear flavors, followed by hints of sea salt. The acidity gives this energy and leads to a finish that reveals hints of passion fruit. Drink now through 2024. (AZ)
Crisp and clean with enough apple and lemon fruit to have a certain charm, but a little bit on the austere side. Better in 2018 and 2019.
