Tasting Notes

Coming from the same vineyards and the same careful cellar-work as Château Carbonnieux, the younger sibling Château Tour Leognan provides the young-vine version for earlier drinking pleasure, and is a joyful way to enjoy fresh Bordeaux while you wait for the big dogs to mature. The heralded 2015 vintage provides a little extra power here, and gives this bottling a bit more depth of seriousness.

This is exactly the type of value Bordeaux that has enthusiasts so excited about the 2015 vintage, especially on the left bank. This is the second label to Chateau Carbonnieux in Pessac Leognan, made from the younger vines of the adjoining property that yield a rich, smooth wine that is a joy to drink in its youth. It has blue and black fruit with underlying graphite notes and just a touch of toast from the barrels. This will age great over the next 5 to 10 years too.

Originally a neighboring property, Chateau Tour Léognan became the second label of Chateau Carbonnieux in 1956 when the Perrin family purchased both properties and reorganized the vineyards. Today the fruit is sourced mostly from younger vines on the estate. The 2015 Tour Léognan is typical of the vintage, ripe and round and easy drinking. Loads of sweet dark fruit with notes of mocha and spice. Much better than their very fine 2012 vintage.
    Drink from 2018 to 2028
