K&L Notes

This Champagne was made in the most expensive way possible. The entire Brison estate is organic, and the wine is entirely barrel fermented. No detail is forgotten in making the vintage wines here, as the owner, Delphine Brulez is a diploma of oenology. Only because of a direct buy are we able to offer a Champagne like this at such a fair price! For those of you who have Brison vintage in the past, we think this is the best one they have ever made … Even better than the 2008!

Delphine Brulez tends to her grandmother’s vines with the utmost love and care, and cuts no corners in the cellar. 50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay, barrel fermented and aged on the lees at least four years, this has fresh stone fruit and cherry notes, vibrant minerals, subtle toast and a round texture from the oak. This can’t be beat for $34.99!

The Louise Brison wines are my favorite in-between style. Not super acidic, laser beams, nor doughy-biscuity brulees. They are the "just right" in the fruit focused category. Notes of cherry, red apples and a bit of grilled toast with a fine bubble make this is a generous and engaging style that screams summer drinking! With its refreshing palate, it is my new house Champagne for these warm weather months.

This bottling is my first introduction to the wines of Louise Brison and I can now see how they fit into our Champagne program. Stylistically the wines go straight down the middle. They are neither that crisp, taught, nervy style nor are they over-the-top yeasty, bread dough, and brioche. Instead, this champagne is more classically vinous in style highlighting the fruit aspect of the wine. A refreshing change of pace. Equal split between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir give this wine great balance and complexity.

This perennial customer favorite is back! I can honestly say that the 2012 version of the vintage Brut is my favorite, so far. A classic blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir, the 2012 strikes just the right balance between fruit and acidity. It still carries that classic Brison golden apple and creme caramel character but, also has a long finish with minerals, spice and white stone fruits. It also retains a "just right" oakiness....not too much and not too little. One thing that has not changed is a affordability! Once again, one of our "best buy" champagnes!

The 2012 is undoubtedly the best Champagne yet from Louise Brison. Delphine Brulez works hard in the vineyard, doing everything the old fashioned, organic hard way, and then continues in the cellar. All the wines are barrel fermented, and the main production, just like in Burgundy, is vintage dated. Sadly, upcoming vintages will be short for this great producer, as the Aube has been very hard hit with hail and spring frost, making for tiny harvests. This is a Champagne with great subtlety and depth, with hints of nut bread and fine cream on the nose, ripe cherry fruit and good citric zip in the mouth and a super long mineral finish. It is a super star.

I'm not sure if it's the Kimmeridgian soils, the organic viticulture or the barrel ageing, but as long as we have carried their wines, I have been a big Louise Brison fan. This 2012 vintage is undoubtedly their best yet, as I think it has the drive, minerality and freshness of past cuvees but is arguably more elegant and complete. For anyone looking for a relatively dry style and great value, this is your Champagne!

Louise Brison has been one of my absolute favorite Champagne producers in the store since I tasted it over a year ago. The care, dedication and smart winemkaing moves Delphine Brulez puts in is obvious when you taste her wines. There is such a great balance here with bright fruit, zippy freshness, and a deeper richness than in years past. The barrel fermentation helps round any sharp edges and the 50/50 blend gives great depth. I was surprised that this went through full malolactic fermentation, given the lengthy acidity present. That's exciting as it's one more element that is going to help preserve this wine for years to come.
