K&L Notes

Winemaker's Notes: "Sweetly fruited Pinot Noir is world famous in Marlborough, but we’ve made it our own by including a few whole bunches. It’s a tricky process, and much more labour-intensive, but when done well it turns the wine to velvet. The stems build silkier tannins and lend a heavenly fragrance. Our final twist is a turn in a smoky oak barrel. Just long enough to add a few layers of savoury and spice complexity to those classic cranberry, cherry and plum fruit flavours. The wine has a complex nose with some attractive, savoury, smoked meat and spice notes. Cherry fruit, with herbs and a floral note. Rounded on the palate with cherry fruit, structured but approachable tannins and juicy acidity. Summer fruit compote, hints of smoky oak and some whole bunch derived spice complete the picture."

It's almost impossible to find a wine of this complexity and breadth at this price point from such an incredibly respected producer. This is not a simple, fruity-style Marlborough Pinot. It is deep, with herbal and wood notes, with dark berries dominating the palate. These complex notes do not add extra weight however and the palate elegantly dances and inexplicably remains silky. This is always one I look forward to seeing come off the boat and would make the perfect Fall and Thanksgiving wine.

At this razor sharp hidden price this is probably top of the list for best pound for pound Pinot Noir in the store. We love the Framingham wines here at K&L, they offer some much substance and style at modest price points. This wine is brimming with dark cherry fruit, bramble, all-spice, hints of dried flowers and leaf litter. Medium bodied, silky smooth with super fine tannins and ripe acids. I love that the fruit is so pure and juicy but underpinned by some savory complexity that is rare in Pinot Noir in this price point. 2015 was a great vintage in Marlborough with low yields and lots of concentration. This wine is just hitting its stride and I think will continue to shine for another 3-5 years at least.

Holy cats, Batman! This Pinot Noir is great! Lovely, dark red fruit nose that extremely fragrant and floral. On the palate, deep, dark cherries, a hint of sweetness (not too much!) and wonderful spicebox notes and minerals. Not to harp on it, but, the Framingham wines are also spectacular values for the quality presented. So much so, that it sticks in the mind as wow(!). This is definitely one of the best Pinot Noir's in our stores across the board.
