Tasting Notes

We'd love to tell you all about the storied estate from which we sourced this superb, classic example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, but we can't. For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels (our first Kalinda Cabernet was from 1982 vintage--a mere 36 years ago). That being said, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that wine from this prestigious producer sells elsewhere under the winery label at a much higher premium. Once you taste the wine, you’ll see that the quality speaks for itself. True to valley fruit, this wine has an open and accessible quality that makes it drinkable right now, but don’t hesitate to buy a bottle or two more to lay down if you like it. It’s definitely got the bones for the long haul, and it will develop beautifully over the next few years.

It's few and far between that a wine and deal this great come along! Fans of big, unctuous, hedonistic Napa Cabs are used to spending upwards of $50-100 to get a plush, full bodied, ripe yet decadently oaky wine but now they don't have too! The Kalinda Lot #2 could possibly be the demise of over-priced, opulent cab producers that don't take into consideration that the Kalinda wines are here to over deliver on both price and quality!

Napa Cab for under $25 is not easy to find- period. Even more difficult is a Napa Cab under $25 that tastes good. The 2016 Lot 2 Cabernet is loaded with fresh red cherry fruit, blackberries, hints of vanilla bean and a lush round mid-palate. The finish is ripe and silky with integrated tannins. Although quite fruity, the wine doesn’t come off as heavy and overbearing. It still maintains a nice balance. This is the perfect wine for your upcoming summer BBQ’s and dinner parties. They will be impressed you’re serving Napa Cab!

We made our first Kalinda Cabernet in 1984 - the 1982 vintage from Boeger winery. Now on our 34th rendition, we've had the fortune to team up with some of the greats in California winemaking over the years. This time the Lot 2 Cabernet is from the Napa Valley and it is so sweet and delicious. Toasty oak nuances and red fruit flavors. Lingering on the palate. Not a tannic blockbuster but more of a Margaux style red. Decant and enjoy with your lamb chop dinner.

During my many years as a wine merchant, one of my top priorities has been making sure my clients have access to a high quality, value-driven Cabernet Sauvignon; preferably from Napa Valley. The Lot #2 bottling from Kalinda is just that wine. It possesses the perfect combination of red and black fruit with the proper amount of structure and grip. I reviewed this wine against several more expensive alternatives. Time and again I came back to the Lot # 2 as my go-to wine. It embodies precisely what you seek when the situation calls for a casual mid-week red or if you’re entertaining a group. Leave your Dunn’s and Montalena’s in the cellar for another year. Open a bottle of Kalinda Lot # 2 instead. You’ll be glad you did.
