The first vintage for this wine and a blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and 23% Cabernet Franc that was aged in 60% new French oak, the 2009 Rasa Vineyards In Order to Form a More Perfect Union delivers spectacular aromatics, a seamless, full-bodied texture, and blockbuster length on the finish. Showing notes of crème de cassis, tobacco, charred toast, sweet oak, and spice cabinet on the nose, this stays gorgeously light, elegant, and fresh on the palate, while at the same time showing fantastic intensity, a concentrated mid-palate, and ripe tannin that emerges with more time in the glass. This is impressive any way you slice it, and while it is no doubt a spectacular drink now, it deserves 4-5 years of bottle age, and should keep for upwards of two decades.
The fruit used to make this Bordeaux-style blend of 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc was sourced from the DuBrul, Kiona, Dionysus and Weinbau vineyards. Dense and deeply flavorful, this wine has intense notes of black fruits, brown spices, licorice and coffee. *Cellar Selection* (PG)
(15.2% alcohol; 41% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot and 23% cabernet franc): Good bright red-ruby. Expressive nose combines red cherry, rose petal and a whiff of menthol, plus a suggestion of minerality; shows strong evidence of the cabernet franc component as well as a distinct Barbaresco quality. Densely packed, silky and uncompromisingly dry, with the concentrated cherry and raspberry fruit element complicated by saline minerality and musky soil tones. Offers a lovely combination of breadth and inner-mouth perfume, and finishes with excellent grip. The Naravanes pay by the acre for this fruit from DuBrul, Kiona, Dionysus and Weinbau and the overall yield was in the two-tons-per-acre range. This will need patience. (ST) 92+
