The 2012 The Ripper 24 release is slightly more evolved, and in this case, I think the earlier bottling is the better wine. Nevertheless, this is still an awesome effort that gives up loads of sweet spice, graphite, licorice, dried flowers and cured meats to go with a full-bodied, sexy, seamless style on the palate. It should be ready to go on release and also have upward of a decade of longevity. (JD)
The 2012 Ripper 24 is an eye-opening wine, as it is the exact same juice that was bottled as the straight Ripper, but with more time in barrel. Sweet floral notes meld into red berries, mint, spices and anise in a gorgeous, lifted Grenache built on precision and nuance. Super-expressive today, the 2012 stands out for its striking perfume and sweetness. (AG)
