Bright medium red. Pungent spicy lift to the aromas and flavors of red cherry, raspberry, crushed stone and menthol. Intensely flavored and high-pitched on the palate, conveying superb sappy energy and pronounced floral energy. Not yet especially pliant, but this dense, sharply delineated wine really dances on the palate and saturates the mouth on the very long, firmly tannic, saliva-inducing finish. It's virtually impossible to find this style of wine outside Burgundy. (ST)
Here the nose is actually quite similar to that of the Cazetiers if perhaps slightly cooler and more restrained. There is a velvety and mouth coating palate feel to the medium-bodied flavors thanks to the abundance of dry extract that pushes the exceptionally firm supporting tannins to the background on the super-intense, robust and gorgeously long finale. This is a notably big-bodied LSJ that is more rustic than usual and one that will also require extended bottle aging. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques has the most outgoing and maybe most exotic aromatic profiles among Jadot's Gevrey premier crus, with kirsch and fig infusing the red and blackberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very focused and tensile even if it does not quite possess the complexity and ambition of the Cazetiers. Very fine. (NM)
