Bright and plummy with strawberry and cherry character and hints of toasted oak and spices. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a ripe, rich aftertaste. This has stuffing. Better than 2000.

The 2001 Barolo Castiglione is very pretty and delicate, with aromas of flowers, crushed raspberries and anise followed by a mid-weight palate of red fruit that finishes with a nice sense of freshness. A bit austere today, this classic young Barolo will reward several years of bottle age and is usually the first of the Vietti wines to reach maturity. Made from a blend of various vineyards, this wine is also one of the best values in Barolo. (AG)
