It's hard to argue with Ian d'Agata, literally the guy who wrote the book on Italian varietals, but praise the lord the Silvano Follador Cartizze is back! "Silvano Follador is in my opinion the single best producer of Prosecco today, though his recent decision to stop making Cartizze so as to focus on just one wine that would best express the denominazione’s potential and terroir is one that pains me immensely. That said, Follador is a true master of the Glera grape variety and the 20,000 bottles of wine he makes a year (he owns 3.5 hectares - 8.6 acres), made in a relatively drier style than most of his colleagues, are much sought after by wine lovers and collectors." Ian d'Agata This wine has 0.3 grams of residual making it very dry, and it is a blend of Prosecco (Glera) with Verdiso, Perera, Bianchetta grapes, they produce 3500 bottles of the Cartizze which is a Metodo Classico made in the bottle Prosecco.

    The Silvano Follador Cartizze redefined what I thought was possible in prosecco. A beautiful aromatic display jumps out the glass with notes of white peach, honey blossom and candied apricot. I don’t like to overuse “minerality” but man does this guy have it. The Cartizze will be the ultimate crowd pleaser and the perfect companion to whatever seafood dish you have in mind.

    From a hilly, single vineyard in Valdobbiadene, the Cartizze from Silvano Follador (one of our top selling Prosecco producers) is fragrant and floral on the nose with notes of fresh green apples. The first single vineyard we have carried from this producer, it is similar to its sister wine due to their lack of addition sugar (or dosage) for the second fermentation. It is dry with a beautiful backbone of minerality and that fresh apple carries through on the palate.

    Ian d'Agata, author of Native Wine Grapes of Italy said “Silvano Follador is in my opinion the single best producer of Prosecco today.” A fresh and dry expression of prosecco that is crisp with notes of fresh pear, golden apples with a little bit of the skin thrown in for a pleasing bitterness. Definitely no slouch of Italian fizz! This one is a no-brainer!

    A very clean and elegant Prosecco that exhibits such youthful exhuberance, full of fresh lemon, pear and green apple aromas. Its light, frothy bubbles are soft and almost silky on the palate. Bone dry and ultra refreshing, this Prosecco is the best of the best.

    The Superiore di Cartizze comes from the most famous “vineyard zone” in the region, a 266-acre slope framed by the villages of San Pietro Barbozza, Saccol and Santo Stefano (from where the Folladors hail). This 2016 Cartizze is DRY; I swear smoke left my mouth after the first taste. That does not mean it is not a complex wine. I still get that granny smith apple up front and red apple and a touch of nectarine on the aftertaste. At 11.5%, this is a great wine to serve for all your holiday parties, very crowd pleasing.

    The nose is full of white peach, linden blossom that then becomes very savory followed by bits of candied ginger. On the palate this wine shows its searing palate presence, and then a saline sensation interspersed with crushed stone dominates your palate quickly followed by delicate hints of stone fruit and fresh herbs that are the first flavors in this bone dry bubbly. Lingering on your palate the white peach begins to flesh out and widen becoming the dominate flavor. The wine’s structure is belied by a delicate mousse, it’s a powerful Prosecco who’s mineral driven core sets the stage for what I feel is the top Cartizze made. Oysters, or if you happen to be in LA you can go to Angelini’s on Beverly and have the Linguine with Santa Barbara Sea Urchin…I died and went to Heaven.

    In my opinion, Silvano Follador is the finest producer of Prosecco. That's a bold statement but after having tasted hundreds over the past 22 years, I think his expertise with the Glera grape is unparalleled. The vineyards of Cartizze are considerd the finest within the Prosecco DOCG and Follador's latest (produced from his vineyards there) is stunning. It's fresh and complex with a persitent perlage and long finish. And, it's hard to believe just how much complexity exists in this bone-dry sparkler. The pinnacle of Prosecco.

    This is "next level" Prosecco! Extremely elegant and lean on the nose; it would throw off anyone tasting blind. Classic and delicate flavors of baked pears, cinnamon covered apples, and oranges on the palate make this Prosecco wildly versatile. Good as a cocktail, alongside a salad topped with blue cheese, or with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Bonus points for achieving all of this while being "Brut Nature" (no residual sugar).
