K&L Notes

Louis Moreau's Petit Chablis is produced entirely in stainless steel tank, expressing the pure essence of Chablisian Chardonnay. Not requiring the seriousness or patience of Grand Cru Chablis, Petit Chablis shines as a fresh, aromatic white that delivers the beautiful minerality and vivacious joy the region is known for. Enjoy while young and vibrant, this is packed with flavors of fresh apple and citrus. Moreau's Petit Chablis is an ideal aperitif wine, and is wonderful as a pairing with Comté or fresh goat cheese.

Plenty of tart, citrus flavors and very vibrant acidity pop upfront and the finish is long. Petit Chablis is not inferior to Chablis -the difference is simply in the soil type, in this case Portlandian marl instead of the Kimmeridgian soils found in Premier Cru and Chablis sites (terroir!) If you're looking for fresh, crisp, clean and easy drinking, this Petit Chablis should be your choice.

I was fortunate enough to visit Moreau last year while passing from the Rhone Valley to the Loire. We made this not to on-the-way detour and I was happy to have done it. The wines from top to bottom are excellent, expressing some of the best values we have in white Burgdundy from Cote Chalonnaise to Chablis. Petit Chablis always seems like an after thought for many producers, but with Moreau, the wine has crackle and a sinewy frame. There is lots of green apple fruit, wet stones and a whisper of fresh thyme on the palate. It is the perfect accompaniment to so many foods but a classic butter basted pan-fried halibut would be my first choice.

A rich nose of honey and wet stone. Smooth minerality, candied orange and lime peel. Lifted and clean. Possibly this summers perfect white? You'll have to try it !

I generally believe that Petit Chablis should consumed young and only when in France. However, this offering from Louis Moreau has me rethinking that position. I was very impressed by the classic Chablis character of this wine. This is a clean and fruit driven wine. It's 100% tank fermented and clocks in at a mere 12.5% alcohol making it a contender for my "wine of the summer". This is a thirst quenching and refreshing wine that will pair well with simple meals and backyard lounging. As they say, it drinks well above its weight class.
