The 2017 La Cote is a blend of Carignan, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, aged entirely in wooden vats. Like all the red offerings from Negly, it's full-bodied, but what distinguishes La Côte (at least in 2017) is the unique, floral-spicy nose and red-fruited flavors. Ripe, supple tannins buttress exotic notes of raspberries, stone fruit, orange zest, cardamom and cumin. Savory and fine, it looks to be a terrific effort for near-term consumption. (JC)
From an early, hot vintage, the 2017 Languedoc La Cote is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan brought up mostly in tank. It got a few "wows" in the notes and has a concentrated, ripe, sexy style as well as classic darker fruits and ample background meatiness. Offering remarkable ripeness, sweet tannins, and terrific mid-palate density, this going to be a little gem of a wine.
