The estate wine comes from plantings which are embedded in a mix of silex, chalk and clay. This is a vibrant and zesty Sauvignon Blanc with a touch of flinty smoke and citrus. I would consider this a step above a "Classic Sancerre" due to the higher concentration of silex. It is very clean with loads of energy and bright freshness throughout. Domaine Vacheron, currently run by two cousins, Jean-Laurent & Jean-Dominique, sits along the eastern edge of the Sancerre appellation. It was certified organic back in 2003 and now has been integrated into biodynamic practices. These wines are the essence of what terroir-driven wines are all about. The domaine's vines (Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir) are all planted on different variations/combinations of silex (which is most important), chalk and clay. Yields are watched and kept on the low side to ensure fantastic concentration and presence of place. And, having some of the best parcels they vinify each one separately and will make the final blends according to which parcels did the best according to the vintage.
