Built on a backbone of 60% Chardonnay, this effervescent white is the product of a truly talented vigneron. Francoise Antech-Gazeau leads this Limoux estate. She has worked with her father and uncle since 1996 to improve the sustainable, agricultural practices in the vineyard and winemaking. This bottling references the family's six generation history of making wine.

    One of our oldest relationships in the Languedoc is with producer Francoise Antech-Gazeau. Based in the village of Limoux, Francoise took the helm of the estate from her father and uncle and now fashions some of our most popular and delightful sparkling French wines. Limoux offers terrific value, located in the cooler hills outside the village with more clay and limestone in the soils. Historically, Limoux even predates Champagne as a sparkling wine producing region. A visit a few years ago to the property, Francoise introduced me to the Heritage 1860, a new tete de cuvee that is fashioned with more Chardonnay in the blend and sees a touch longer aging on the lees to develop more autolytic (doughy, yeasty) qualities. Now the third vintage we have carried, the 2015 is the best to date! It offers up a creamy palate of golden delicious apples, Anjou pear notes and a touch of white flowers. A light biscuity tones rounds out the flavor profile.     Antech Estate practices the "méthode traditionnelle" in creating all their Cremant de Limoux wines, and is also Terra Vitis certified for their commitments to sustainable farming. It shows. The Antech Heritage 1860 Cremant Blanc is an elegant sparkler that delivers well above its price point, easily standing up to domestic and Champagne cousins in the 30-40 dollar range. A bit less yeasty than your typical Champagne, the Antech is clean and bright, with a nose full of white flowers, and hints of pear and golden delicious apple through the finish. 60% Chardonnay, 20% Chenin, 10% Mauzac 10% Pinot Noir.

Crafted from old vines grown at altitude from a 'triptych of terroirs', the wines of Antech attest to the best from Limoux, and the Heritage brings it all together, with generous bubbles and captive flavors of Asian pear, fig, citrus and late summer fruits, dry and pleasant on the finish. Dressed up or dressed down, this attractive traditional sparkler is a true carnival of delights!
