Another huge, massive Howell Mountain wine, the 2016 Zinfandel Rattlesnake Ridge is simply stunning. In 2016, the Rattlesnake is intensely mineral and savory, with huge tannins and bright, piercing acidity. Vibrant, powerful and explosive from start to finish, the 2016 is simply phenomenal. There is not much else to say, really. (AG)

From a high-elevation site on Howell Mountain with thin, rocky soils that typically produces one of the wilder, more brooding wines in the range, the 2016 Zinfandel Rattlesnake Ridge is no exception. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of raspberries, cherries, wood smoke, grilled meat and burnt sage, the wine is full-bodied, deep and chunky, with a chewy chassis of stony structuring tannins, a layered mid-palate and a concentrated core of sun-kissed fruit. Broad-shouldered and potent, with raspberry and garrigue aromas and sturdy currant, stony mineral and white pepper flavors that finish with taut tannins. Best after 2019. (TF)
