There is good depth and interest to the aromas here, with damson alongside some subtle resin notes. Full-bodied and powerful on the palate, the lush, fleshy plum fruit continues into the long finish. There is ample balancing acidity and tight, fine tannin on the finish. It's a wine that feels more gently steered to its final state rather than micro-managed; it's not overly polished and retains some texture and detail. (MW)
A 60-40 blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2016 Cotes du Rhone Villages le Ponnant combines ripe cherries and blueberries on the nose, a seriously big bowl of fruit, with just a light dusting of dried spices and garrigue-llike shadings. Medium to full-bodied, it's fine, silky and long on the finish. It should drink well for 6-7 years. (JC)
Excellent fruit character on the nose and palate, which delivers more clarity and intensity than many at this price. Floral finish with lifted violet aromas. Very tasty! (RH)
