Saturated red. Deep aromas of pomegranate, sexy spices, red cherry, sweet spices and camphor. Fresh and juicy, offering dense flavors of sandalwood, graphite and juicy red cherry. Finishes long and clean, with outstanding cut and clarity. Strikes me as a much more serious, deeper wine than the 2013 Brunello. Aged 35 months in 20-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks. This is the first vintage of this wine made from a vineyard planted in 2001. ID
This wine now lists a vineyard designate: Duelecci Ovest. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Duelecci Ovest shows soft fruit fiber and a loose texture that is certainly due to the hot growing conditions in this vintage cycle. There is lots of dark fruit at the core of this muscular and determined Sangiovese. Dried blackberry and plum are woven between layers of spice, leather and pressed rose. This wine ages in large Slavonian oak casks for three years. Some 5,000 bottles were made. ML
Aromas of violet, black-skinned berry, tilled earth and tobacco slowly take shape on this. The savory palate delivers black cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and clove alongside robust but fine-grained tannins. Enjoy 2022-2029. KO
