K&L Notes

This great Champagne is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from the original estate of Roederer in Verzy, Verzenay and Avize. A little over 8% of the wine is fermented in large oak barrels, while the rest is done in stainless.

It's relatively rare for a champagne house of this size to own its own vineyards, but Roederer is adamant that if they declare a vintage wine, it all must come from its own vineyards. The toast nose belies the zippy, high acid palate and the Verzenay fruit truly shines. Great minerality and citrus notes, this is a fantastic party Champagne, as it is sure to please everyone there.

As much as I love an underdog, classics are classics for a reason. Roederer delivers so consistently, and this is not an exception to that well-earned reputation. This is a supple champagne, delectably creamy, full of honeyed-brioche, and an elegant, saline, earthy tone that brings it all together for a long, memorable finish. This is luxury champagne, at an exceptionally reasonable price.

On paper, this vintage champagne has a lot going for it: entirely grand cru fruit from a top producer and the best vintage since 2008. On the palate, it is even better. It has a beautiful nose of cream, subtle toast, smoke and white fruits. It has electrifying, rich, very powerful yet precise fruit on the palate, with a lovely long finish. Worth every penny, maybe even more.

You’ll be happy to know that all of the Vintage champagne from Roederer are 100% estate grown fruit and organic! The grapes are 30% Chardonnay from Avize and 70% Pinot Noir from Verzenay. This champagne gives a gorgeous richness that is nutty and toasty with notes of fresh red apples and peach and a slight tinge of bitterness on the palate that will make any mouth water.

Another example of why they call 2012 "The Miracle Vintage," Roederer's 2012 Brut boasts gorgeous structure and an elegant, long-lasting finish. Marrying light brioche toast, orange marmalade, soft floral aromas and pleasing minerality, it is easy to see why this house commands such respect. Their vintage bruts serve as a bench-mark for champagne year after year, and this iteration could be the best yet. A credit to the winemakers, the wine feels impressively deft on the palate despite the weight of its pinot-heavy blend. This bottle is a consummate companion to any celebration, as it is a celebration in and of itself.

If I could think of a perfect textbook definition of Champange, I think this 2012 Roederer would be it. All vintages Roederer wines come from vineyards own by the estate since the 1770's. The original property in Verzenay makes the Pinot Noir that dominates this vintage Grand Marque. It is classic in every way- toasted brioche fills the nose and mimics on the palate while the long, focused acidity keeps it lively and defined.

A classic, broad shouldered Champagne from a spectacular vintage, the 2012 Roederer Brut is crafted from seventy percent Pinot Noir from Verzenay, and thirty percent Chardonnay from Avize. Aromas of delicate red currant, white mushroom and toasted almond hint at the depth on the palate, but this wine exceeds expectation. The palate is broad and rich, but balanced, with flavors of underripe pineapple, exotic spices, and even hints of black pepper, making this Brut a knockout for those who value power and length in a Champagne.

Amongst the grande marques, there is no other house bottling vintage Champagnes that are as delicious, affordable, as Louis Roederer. Whether it is their vintage rosé or this 2012, the quality is simply self evident. I think that the Chardonnay here, while not the majority of the cuvee, really marks the wine, with savory and salty fruit. A fantastic, wonderfully expressive vintage Champagne from Louis Roederer.

The vintage brut from Champagne Louis Roederer is a world class Champagne. I love the hazelnut cream and subtle dark cherry on the very giving nose and can't get enough of the concentrated, leesy mid-palate. This is all from the original vineyards first purchased by the family in the late 1700's; 70% Pinot Noir from Verzenay and Verzy and 30% Chardonnay from Chouilly. The special plots destined for the vintage are farmed specifically for this wine, and the dry but powerful Champagne shows off this dedication.
