To the best of my recollection, the Chablis villages from Domaine Dauvissat was down about fifty percent in 2016. The wine is absolutely outstanding for its appellation offering up a pure and zesty bouquet of pear, lemon, chalky limestone minerality, citrus zest and a nice touch of oyster shell in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and absolutely rock solid at the core, with great cut and grip and a very long, complex and perfectly balanced finish. A beautiful wine. 2018-2040.
Pale, bright yellow. Classic citrus scents of lemon and grapefruit. At once sweeter, deeper and more energetic than the Petit Chablis, conveying an almost plush texture to its citrus fruit flavors. After the creamy middle, the finish is firm, taut and incisive. With its moderate acidity, this wine will drink well young but it will also have mid-term aging potential. (ST)
Here the ripe and fresh nose displays a bit more Chablis typicity on the pear and white peach aromas. The suave, indeed even silky medium-bodied flavors possess slightly more size, weight and mid-palate concentration while delivering sneaky good length on the sappy and well-balanced finale. This should drink well young.
The 2016 Chablis Villages is very good, unfurling in the glass with aromas of honey, preserved citrus, oatmeal, oystershell and subtly smoky reduction. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with tangy acids. It's not as pure and incisive as the greatest Dauvissat vintages, but it would be difficult to find a better Chablis AOC bottling in 2016. (WK)
