Revealing more oak at present than its siblings, the 2013 Pinot Noir West Block offers more earth and spice characteristics as well as a more angular, structured mouthfeel. Not as plush or seductive as the Sweetwater Pinot, it is more masculine and firm, and will require 1-2 years of bottle age once it is in the marketplace. This medium to full-bodied 2013 should age for a decade. (RP) 91-93+

The 2013 Pinot Noir West Block is another powerful wine, but it is also quite inward and tannic with less of the exuberance that is found in many of the wines. In this vintage, the West Block is not that different in personality to think it merits a separate bottling, but perhaps something tellingly unique will emerge over time. Today, the West Block is a bit of an enigma. (AG) 91+
