K&L Notes

Winery Notes: Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm climate Australian shiraz -- ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented. 92 points The Wine Front

Always one of our best-selling offerings from Penfolds, the Bin 28 is a classic Shiraz the winery has been producing since 1959. Notes of cherry and raspberry dominate the nose, while the mouthfeel lingers more on dark fruits of plum and blackberry. Spices, both peppery and sweet, are definitely present, which is surprising given the warm vintage. The fine, smooth tannin structure creates a velvety feel and there is a nice line of acid running through the whole thing to keep it fresh and bright. This wine is youthful, yet full-bodied, and a great, inexpensive bottling to enjoy from one of the most prestigious wineries in Australia.
