From vines at least 30 years old. Bright lime nose, lean and precise with raciness and charm. Quite pungent but no greenness, though it has a tangy sweet and sour finish. Quite long. Drinking Window 2017 - 2024. (SB)
Here too there are notes of citrus along with those of pear and apple though not much obvious Chablis character. There is both good volume and mid-palate density to the round, punchy and mouth coating flavors that offer acceptable depth and length. Note that this still had not been bottled at the time of my June 2017 visit. *Outstanding*
The 2015 Chablis les Venerables Vieilles Vignes is maybe a bit misleading since the vines average 35 years old—they're mature, but there are countless older parcels in the region. It spent 14 months on the lees in both stainless steel and oak barrels. It has a simple, slightly waxy bouquet that opens nicely in the glass, traces of granite developing with aeration and a touch of blackcurrant leaf. The palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity: very spicy in the mouth at first, although it calms down toward a harmonious finish. Enjoy this over the next three or four years. (NM)
