The 2016 Le Petit Baal is mostly Merlot, with 20% each of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for six months in third use French oak. For the value end of the spectrum, this is very nicely done. Well balanced and reasonably structured, it also has some velvety texture. The concentration is not quite as good, but it typically seems elegant, not thin. The Syrah adds a little aromatic complexity here too. This is a bit tight but approachable now. It might be better at the end of the year, or this time next year. (MS)
