Somewhat surprisingly this is riper than the Vaulorent but maintains good aromatic freshness if a bit less Chablis character on the oak framed white orchard fruit and citrus scents. There is excellent richness to the generously proportioned and caressing medium weight flavors that possess a sleeker mouth feel on the quinine and bitter lemon-inflected finish where the only reproach is a hint of warmth. Classy juice and a very good 2016. *Outstanding*
The 2016 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a well defined, quite "punchy" bouquet with potent aromas of cooking apple, Conference pear and struck flint. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This eschews that exotic tendency of the 2016 vintage to create a more linear, slightly more austere Montée de Tonnerre with a latent spiciness developing on the finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the BIVB Chablis tasting. (NM)
Suave, modern expression of the appellation with appealing tension, richness and structure; round and lemony with whisper of caramel and spice.
Handy weight and richness here. Smooth and creamy peaches, apples and pears with a gently nutty thread. The concentration is good. Drink or hold.
The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre exhibits notes of fresh white peach, citrus oil and beeswax. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and blocky, with a layered mid-palate and succulent acids. (WK)
