A discreet application of wood can be found on the bright and fresh aromas of red currant, cherry and lavender along with a touch of earth. The supple, pliant and very round medium-bodied flavors also possess a lovely mouthfeel, all wrapped in a clean and dry finish that can't quite match the Champ in complexity but it's just as persistent. Once again, this is really quite good. *Outstanding, Top Value*
The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin Le Clos comes from vines planted in 1997 and located in the center of the village whose actual lieu-dit is (drum roll please) “Village.” It has a kind of languid, ripe and generous bouquet with crushed strawberry and redcurrant aromas that feel very sensual. The palate is sweet and nicely poised, with a slightly candied note to this cuvée, though for me, it does not quite deliver the same level of nuance as the Gevrey-Chambertin En Champ. (NM)
Le Clos is a lieu-dit behind the church of Gevrey, not far from the domaines of Claude Dugat and Armand Rousseau, and its soils are typical of the deep deposits of the Combe Lavaux’s alluvial fan. Its bouquet is quite lifted, with notes of fragrant black fruit and raspberry, followed on the palate by a plush, velvety wine with supple tannins and a generous personality.
