Deep red-ruby. Aromas of dark plum, blackberry, soy sauce and sweet spices. Harmonious acidity provides noteworthy clarity and cut to flavors that are similar to the aromas. Boasts a mineral texture and a long finish. This is slightly denser than the Aglianico Bacioilcielo from the same vintage, though both are really good wines. (ID)
A pure expression of Aglianico from 15- to 20-year-old vines, the 2016 Paestum Aglianico Donnaluna is a layered and bold red wine. Some 10% of the wine is fermented with the stems with ambient yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel, but the wine is later aged in a 50-50 combination of steel and large oak casks for a total of 18 months. The bouquet opens to fragrant tones of blackberry and prune. Dusty mineral notes appear at the edges. This is a full-weight value red to pair with grilled meats. (ML)
