A discreet touch of wood surrounds the more elegant and distinctly cool mix of essence of red pinot fruit that is trimmed in subtle nuances of earth, spice and violet. There is an engaging vibrancy to the well-detailed and caressing medium weight flavors that are significantly firmer as well as a bit more austere as well. This lovely effort should reward from 6 to 8 years of bottle age.
Pale to mid cherry. Prettily scented with gentle red-cherry aroma. On the palate, deliciously fresh, almost but not quite tart. Not particularly long but well formed. Quite soft already but not in the least insubstantial with a light chew on the finish. 16/20 points. (JH)
The 2014 Volnay Village has a crisp redcurrant and red cherry scented bouquet, retaining that 'cold stone' aroma that I picked up out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with red cherry and cranberry fruit, the tannins showing just a little coarseness towards the finish, although that will be abraded with time. This will probably only need a couple of years in bottle before it is ready for the corkscrew. (NM)
Medium red. Liqueur-like cherry and musky milk chocolate on the very ripe nose; smells creamy! Sweet red fruit flavors are concentrated and tactile for village wine but a firm spine of acidity and tannins gives it noteworthy energy. Finishes persistent, with good medicinal reserve. (ST)
