The Chambolle AC bottling from Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot hails all from the climat of les Gamaires, which lies on the Morey border just below la Bussière. The vines are a mix of 1955 and 1985 plantations and the 2017 version was showing nicely at the time of my visit, offering up a fine bouquet of sappy red and black cherries, raw cocoa, gamebird, a nice base of soil and a touch of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and has a lovely core, with fine attendant soil signature, ripe, moderate tannins and fine balance and grip on the long and nascently complex finish. Good juice. 2022-2045.
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Village comes from vines close to the Morey border and sees one-third new oak. It offers straightforward brambly red fruit on the nose, displaying the earthiness you would obtain from Morey. The palate is well balanced with an energetic opening, touches of orange zest infusing the red fruit, and quite a delicate but energetic finish. Enjoy this over the next decade. (NM)
