A much more discreet touch of wood frames notably ripe aromas of cassis, violet, lavender, plum and rose petal. There is excellent size and weight to the firm and attractively textured, even caressing, flavors that possess focused power and plenty of verve on the strikingly persistent and balanced mineral-inflected finish. This is a wonderfully balanced Amoureuses of power and finesse. *Don't Miss! Outstanding*
Bright red. Wonderfully perfumed aromas of cranberry, raspberry and crushed rock. Enters the mouth with good texture and thickness, then turns very tight and compressed in the middle palate, conveying dynamic energy to its brooding flavors of tart red berries and minerals. This extremely backward wine is dramatically bound-up today, even a bit inscrutable. Barnier noted that it was racked last June but could use another racking soon, not to mention more élevage. He probably won't bottle this wine until May or June, noting that he will take his time bottling the '16s. (ST)
Frédéric Barnier opted to use some whole cluster fruit this year to make up volume in tank, but its influence doesn’t dominate the wine. Aromas of orange peel, rosehip, cherry and strawberry introduce a supple, open-knit, sapid wine with a pretty core of fruit and a lovely sense of delicacy.Drinking Window 2022 - 2035. (WK)
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses has a very elegant bouquet, well defined with perfumed, violet-tinged blue and red fruit. It feels quite understated but it is purring along and gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin, a fine silver bead of acidity but maybe missing some sophistication and complexity toward the finish that leaves you wanting more from this lover. Hopefully it will gain more personality and address the final third during the remainder of its élevage. (NM)
