With vines on the Montagne de Reims, this producer has a good line in Pinot Noir, which forms 85% of the blend. The wine is rich while well balanced and ripe. Now with just the right amount of bottle aging, it is full in the mouth, showing attractive apple and ripe pear flavors. The aftertaste is soft and fresh. (RV)
An elegant, aperitif-style Champagne that offers layers of flavor, with notes of Gala apple, tangerine, smoke, biscuit, cumin, honey, lime zest and salted butter. Texturally refined, with a bright juiciness to the acidity. (AN)
The current release of Nicolas Maillart 'Platine' non-vintage Brut was disgorged in March of 2018 and finished with a dosage of six grams per liter. The wine offers up a lovely and expressive nose of apple, a touch of lemon zest, chalky minerality, wheat toast, white flowers and a touch of gentle smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, fullbodied and nicely snappy with acidity, with a good core, frothy mousse and fine focus and grip on the long and nascently complex finish. This is a lovely wine of impeccable balance and blossoming complexity- a fine example of non-vintage Brut. 2019-2035.
Light yellow-gold. Vibrant, mineral-accented aromas of Meyer lemon, blood orange, jasmine and green tea; smells like there's more Chardonnay in here. Taut and sharply focused, offering crackling citrus fruit and underripe pear flavors that put on weight with air. Finishes energetic and dry, with suave floral and chalky mineral qualities. (JR)
55% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay. Base 2011, 48% reserves. 29% barrel fermented. Partial malo. Bottled 2012 and given extra time on lees, nearly 5 years total. Disgorged November 2016. Dosage 1 g/l. Very nicely balanced. Fine and approachable with some depth. I would have guessed a higher dosage because it is not at all austere. But then look at that proportion of reserve wine! Really nice drink. (JR)
The NV Premier Cru Platine Brut is from vineyards in Bouzy, Eceuil and Villers Allerand and blends 78% Pinot Noir with 16% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Meunier. The actual release is based on the 2014 vintage, complemented with 35% of reserve wines aged in barrels. Bottled in July 2015, this cuvée was disgorged in December 2017 with a dosage of six grams per liter. Pure and fresh on the nose, with nutty and toasty flavors, this is an elegant, nicely lean and fruity as well as very stimulating Brut to be served as an aperitif. The finish is tight, fresh and pretty long. (SR)
