So named for the fact that it is made from somewhat younger vines planted in several of Turley's favorite old-vine sites, this very well-focused effort is rife with fresh, incisively berry-like fruit and suffers from no lack of substance and stuffing. It is ripe but not singularly so and has the fruity extract to comfortably buffer its claimed 15.5% alcohol, and it is a deep and articulate Zinfandel that hits all of the right varietal marks. Pour it now alongside the likes of savory pork roasts if you will, but we see little reason for hasty drinking and would opt for two to four years of further age if given the choice. *Good Value*
There are 12,000 cases of the 2016 Zinfandel Juvenile, a cuvée that began life as a bottling produced from the young-vine fruit from replanted vines, which Turley has always harvested separately, and now includes declassified wine from other sites. Offering up an inviting bouquet of sweet cherries, plums and petroleum jelly, the wine is medium-bodied, supple and velvety, with tangy acids, a ripe core of fruit and a mouthwatering finish. As the price hasn't changed since the inaugural release, the Juvenile bottling represents ever better value with each new vintage. (WK)
